Best Compromise for Windows 10 Scaling Issues

Posted on .

Windows 10 scales quite well now for high DPI devices in comparison with other previous windows version. On my Dell XPS 13 with QHD screen everything looks stunning. But, when you connect a 1080p monitor, everything breaks loose! Pretty much like other windows versions… You either get very small icons on the QHD display or very big icons on the FHD display.

If you try to play with custom scaling percentage, most probably you will get blurry applications on one of the display, especially on the Microsoft office suite or very big or small icons on the other display.

However, I stumbled upon a configuration which offers the best compromise so far between objects size and clear text. Here is how I did it:

  • Step 1: Setup the FHD display as main display.
  • Step 2: Change the size of the text, apps and other items to 100%
  • Step 3: on the QHD display change the size of the text, apps and other items to 200%

Under these settings the Microsoft Office suite have just very subtle blur. Skype works fine and browsers scale up quite well.

The only major issue that I have is that the desktop seen on the QHD screen has very small icons like it is has a 100% scaling setup.
